Preparing for the new School Year ahead
We know that this time of year is one with lots of emotions, from excitement to worry about both our existing families and especially families that are new to us. We want to assure you that all our staff team are extremely excited to welcome your child and your family and our planning for your child’s arrival in their new class. This has been underway for some time to ensure that the teams are ready to welcome them to their new classes.
Our transition weeks begin on 14th of July 2025 and run until the 23rd July 2025. The format of these days will allow the new school year to begin early and allow our pupils to get to know their class team, make new friends and begin their new school timetable.

Information for our existing families
For our existing families, there are a number of events that are taking place in the build up to transition weeks
This includes our Family Coffee Morning: 10th June 2025 10am-12pm both Abbey Main site and Horizon.
You will have the chance to attend your child's Parents Evening, which will allow you to discuss progress and meet your child's new class teacher on 9th July 4-6pm.
Our YST Sports Day on the 18th July will also allow you to be part of the school community as we prepare for the new school year ahead. 10:00am -12:00pm Abbey Main Site ticketed event. You will have been sent out a form to complete for this.
Information for our New Families
For our new families... Firstly, welcome to #teamabbey. We can not wait for you to be part of our community. Here are some of the options for you to come into school before the transition weeks.
Family Coffee Morning 26th June 2025 10:00am - 12:00pm Main Site and Horizon Oasis
Our New Family Eve 2nd July 4:00-5:30pm. A chance for our new families to meet their class team and experience aspects of #teamabbey.
Transition for New Pupils 14th - 23rd July 2025
We recognise that as your child starts their new journey with us that every family is different and that your child has to have closure with their current setting and have their own closure. This is why the choice for how you want the transition to look for your child.
Over the week and a half of transition, you can choose when you want your child to come into school. All we ask is that you complete the form so we are aware of when your child will be in school as we have to let their current setting know about attendance.
Start Time: 9:30am we ask your child into reception at either Abbey Main Site or the Horizon Oasis if your child is attending our Barnsley Provision.
Finish Time: 2:30pm Again we ask you to pick up your child at Reception

Support from Rainbows and Storms, our Family Group

We have an amazing group of family members who arrange a number of events both in and outside the school day. Arranging family get-togethers in the local community, and coffee mornings in school. The aim of Rainbows and Storms is to have a place where you can talk about things that are going well and also the things that are not. It allows a safe space to talk and signpost each other. If you would like to speak to or become a member of Rainbows and Storms join us at one of our coffee mornings. |
